Access Statement for Blue Barn



 

Introduction

Blue Barn is part of Lois Country Cottages, and one of two self catering holiday units located on Lois Farm. This access statement is to help provide visitors with as much information as possible. 

 
Pre-Arrival

•  We have a website and a colour brochure  
•  Enquiries and bookings can be made by phone or e-mail 
•  The nearest train station is Templecombe (3 miles) 
•  Taxis can be ordered from the station platform or we can book one in advance for you 
•  Wincanton is the nearest town (3 miles by car) 
•  Horsington is our nearest village (1.4 miles) 
•  Written directions on how to find Lois Farm are sent to all visitors

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

• There is a private car park adjacent to Green and Blue Barns which is reached down a 20 metres drive through gates  
• There is space for up to 4 cars with room for rear access to the vehicles  The surface is grassed but firm and slightly uneven 
• Leading from the car park through a small gate width 84cms, is a paved straight path for 15 metres and I metre wide. Follow this and then turn right for a further 5 metres. You are now facing Blue Barn.  

• At night there is a light to illuminate this path.  
• On arrival there will always be someone to show you around and help with luggage. 

 

 
Main Entrance, Reception & Ticketing Area

• The front door is hinged on the right, all glazed with bars and is 80 cms wide 2.00 metres high. There is a front step of quarry tiles of 7cms and a second step of 9cms leading into the main room onto a doormat.

 


Public Areas - Sitting room, lounges, lobbies etc

• LOUNGE/DINER

• On either side of the front door are two glass panels 60 cms wide. On the opposite wall are similar panels of glass this time either side of two 1.00 metre patio doors. These lead to the patio area of 9 square metres of wooden decking.
• The floor of the lounge/diner has unpolished varnished floorboards with a contemporary wool rug in the center of the room.
• The decor is off white and the lighting consists of two wall up lighter lights and two table lights. A two way switch can be found to the right of the front door connecting to a similar switch on the left wall at the opening to the kitchen.
• A modern dining table 1.50 metres x 1.00 metre standing 75cms high is positioned end on to a wall with four armless padded chairs.
• Opposite the dining area is the space devoted to the lounge. The furniture consists of a large sofa, a large chair with padded seat and arms and a comfortable contemporary chair with arms. Beside the sofa is a large coffee table 30cms high. A book case and two side tables are placed near the wall and the chairs with a trolley holding the TV/Freeview box and DVD/Video recorder.
• Leading from the lounge/diner through a 1.65 metres opening and two steps of 20cms rise is the kitchen area. There is a hand rail to the left of these steps.      

 
Outdoor Facilities

• Outside the lounge/diner is a private patio. This decked area is surrounded on two sides by walls. This leads on to a lawn fenced to the surrounding meadow fields. 
• A large wooden 3.00 metres bench runs down one side of the decking with a set of ironwork garden furniture consisting of a small circular table with four chairs. In addition there are folding garden chairs. A stand and sun shade are available.   

 
Bedrooms & Sleeping Areas

BEDROOMS I & 2

• Entry to the bedrooms is from the kitchen through a left hinged door with an opening of 71cms. Both bedrooms have unpolished varnished floorboards and rugs besides the beds and in the centre of the room.
• The large downstairs bedroom has a king size bed (1.50 metres x 1.95 metres)  which is 73cms high and has a bedside table with reading lamp on either side. The ceiling height 2.10metres finishes half way across the room and then opens up to the roof of the building  exposing the roof and the mezzanine of the floor above.
• A pine chest of drawers 1.20 metres high  x 1.80 metres wide and a canvas wardrobe 1.80 metres high and 1.20 metres wide are placed by the walls. There are two armless chairs. 
• To one side through 1.13 metres wide patio doors there is an exit to a small private lawn. One step 13cms leads down to paving stones. There is a washing line and a back entrance to the car park.
• A smoke alarm is on the ceiling in this room.
• Leading from this bedroom are the stairs leading to the next floor. Two 80cms wide steps then turn at right angles and another nine steps continue to the landing. The rise of the steps are each 20cms
• At the top of the stairs on the left side are two way light switches  connected to switches at the entrance of the ground floor bedroom on the right wall. These connections are to spot lights over the staircase and a light in the centre of this room .
• To the left at the top of the stairs is a small partition wall which houses a single bed 1.95metres long x 90cms wide x 30cms high. A small chest of drawers with a table light is beside the bed. Opposite there is a built in cupboard 1.20 metres wide by 1.35 metres high.
• To the right of the stairs is another single bed 1.95metres long x 90cms wide x 30cms high again with a small chest of drawers and a table light beside the bed. 
• At the end of this floor is a balcony with a set of staircase railings 1.20 metres high. Daylight comes from the room below and additional light comes from a skylight in the centre of the room. A built in blind can also prevent light from entering.
• There are two low joists 1/3rd and 2/3rds along this room with heights approximately 1.50 metres from the floor. We recommend this bedroom as suitable for children rather than adults.
• Underneath the stairs is a cupboard for holding cleaning implements, a sun shade and outside cushions.
• The decor throughout is off white 

 
Bathroom, Shower-room & WC [Ensuite or Shared]

• On the same level as the kitchen and bedroom is the shower bathroom. 
• The flooring has square ceramic tiles and the entry door is hinged on the left. The opening is 70cms and leads to toilet (seat height 44cms) and a basin (height 86 cms). Above the basin is a mirror and light with a shaver point to the right.
• The shower has a square 1 metre ceramic tray. 
• The step into the shower cubicle is 25cms and the shower door width is 60cms.The height of the power shower is 150cms. 
• An extractor fan works in conjunction with a spot light in the ceiling and the mirror light. 
• The door lock can be opened if necessary from the outside. 

 
Self-Catering Kitchen

• The flooring in the kitchen consists of ceramic square tiles with lighting from three spotlights sunk in the ceiling. The decor is off white.
• Facing the U shaped kitchen galley are work surfaces 1.5 metres in length on the right, 2.4 metres on the left with a sink unit joining the two. On the right there is a cupboard and a fridge under the work surfaces. On the left we have two cupboards, washing machine and a cooker under the work surface. Above the cooker is a hob with  a hood, light and fan extractor. Three cupboards are above the remaining space on this side.  The work surfaces are 92cms high and 60cms in depth and there is a passage way of 90cms.
• Standard catering crockery is stored in the cupboards underneath with glasses and cups etc at eye level. There is a microwave, kettle and toaster. 
• A fire blanket is placed on the wall opposite the cooker between the door and the dresser. Two bins and a food waste container are available.

• Central heating is throughout with radiators in every room controlled by thermostats.
